Throughout
the year, the Beverly Art Center presents rotating exhibitions of
contemporary art in our spectacular new 2nd floor art gallery. These
exhibits are free and open to the public. While in the neighborhood,
be sure to visit the Vanderpoel Art Association Gallery, which houses
notable works by American Impressionists and other artists, including
Mary Cassatt, Loredo Taft, Maxfield Parrish, and Grant Wood.

Works by members of the American Jewish Artists Club.
The American Jewish Artists Club has been in existence for 84 and has a long-standing commitment to the promotion of notable talent in the arts. The exhibit at the BAC features the work of many of the Club’s visual artist members on the theme A Gathering of Waters: Artists engage with forms of “water” cited in Jewish text. Works have been executed in various media: painting, sculpture, mixed media, photography and printmaking. Many of the exhibitors are long standing Illinois artists.
The American Jewish Artists Club encourages its members to exhibit work of varied content and personal style, and not necessarily religious or ethno-centric in content. Members exhibiting in this show live in Buffalo Grove , Chicago , Deerfield , Evanston , Highland Park , Lake Forest , Lincolnshire , Lincolnwood, Northbrook , Skokie , and Wilmette . The Club has exhibited widely in the Chicago area. Works of many of its members can be found in private, national and International collections. Jerrold Maddox - Photographs - top

Jerrold Maddox is a photographer who lives in central Pennsylvania, where he teaches at Penn State University. After many years as an exhibiting painter he turned to photography and digital media in 1990. Most of the photographs in this exhibition were taken within walking distance of his home in Pennsylvania Furnace. There are also a few taken in Tokyo and England. Included in the exhibit are a series of screen and digital prints made to be given away - they are in stacks on boxes in front of the windows. Please take copies, if you want them. Theater & Bridge Galleries Exhibit: August 13-September 26 Reception: TBAThis exhibition will feature cheerful acrylic paintings by Mary King and black and white photographs by Gary Cialdella which celebrate the industrial areas of southeast Chicago and northwest Indiana that some people live in the midst of and other people do not realize still exist.
King and Cialdella take two very different approaches in representing this area, but the work of both makes clear their understanding, and even love for, this part of the greater Chicago region.
Mary King exhibits widely. She has had one-person shows in New York, Chicago and Detroit. TheChicago Reader and The New York Times like her. She lives and works in Chicago.
Gary Cialdella is a native of Blue Island. He lives in Michigan and works in Michigan and Chicago. His book The Calumet Region: An American Place was published by The University of Illinois Press in 2009. Works from the book will be included in the exhibition.

A non-refundable fee of $30 ($25 BAC members) is required. Enter Early and SAVE! Enter by September 5: $20 ($15 BAC Members). Enter by September 20: $25 ($20 BAC Members); Enclose check or money order payable to the Beverly Arts Center. Additional applications in other media from the same artist will be accepted for an additional fee of $10 per application.
Eligibility: The competition is open to artists who live in or within 100 miles of the City of Chicago. All work must have been completed in the last 5 years and be professionally finished. (All accepted entries must be framed and wired for hanging; sculptures must be ready for installation).

Part of Chicago Artists' Month: Mary McCarthy, Paintings 2000-2010, A Survey - top

Mary McCarthy is an abstract painter who lives and works in Chicago. Her work has been featured in several publications and has been exhibited throughout the U.S. Her work is included in private collections, nationally and internationally. McCarthy is an Alumni of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Studio Arts Center International in Florence, Italy. This exhibition will include grid paintings of the past, and will focus on her more recent free flowing geometric abstractions.

"Meet the Lincolns": August 17, 10am-12pm at the BAC Lincoln actors Michael Krebs and Debra Ann Miller will entertain their audience at the White House-a family friendly event with a chance to "meet" the Lincolns.
"Life on the Ridge during the Civil War": August 5-September 30 at the Ridge Historical Society Enjoy an exhibit with stories and artifacts about the families and lifestyles among those living on the Ridge in the 1860's.
"To Live and Die a Civil War Soldier": August 29, 2-4pm at the Mt. Greenwood Cemetary Dr. Wayne Wolf, Civil War Historian will describe the life and death of the common civil war soldier and tour the cemetary's civil war grave sites. A self-guided local cemetary tour guide will be provided for program attendees.
“Abraham Lincoln: Self-Made in America,” a world-class traveling exhibit featuring reproduction artifacts from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois is coming to the Beverly Arts Center Thurs., Aug. 5 through Fri., Sept. 3. The Ridge Historical Society (RHS) won this grant-funded exhibit and arranged for the local showing of the Lincoln exhibit at the BAC. Exhibit hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mon. through Fri., 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sat., and 1 to 5 p.m. Sun. Admission is free. The exhibit was created to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of America ’s 16th president by the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
The reproduction artifacts on display, all modeled from originals in the Presidential Library and Museum, include: Lincoln’s favorite books; his son Tad’s toy cannon; the nameplate from his Springfield home; his stovepipe hat, which he used like a briefcase to hold important papers; a Presidential campaign banner; an axe that Lincoln used to chop wood; the bloody gloves found in Lincoln’s pocket the night of his assassination; and many other unique and interesting items.
In conjunction with the Lincoln exhibit, the Ridge Historical Society, 10621 S. Seeley Ave. , Chicago , will exhibit information, photos and memorabilia about “Life on the Ridge” during the Civil War from their collection throughout the months of August and September. In addition, the life and memories of local soldiers who fought in the Civil War will be explored in a program at Mount Greenwood Cemetery . Finally, Lincoln recreator Michael Krebs will perform at the BAC in August.
