The BAC summer mini-camps offer students the ability to try out various forms of art and creative expression across all of our educational departments throughout the summer.  Camps are all two weeks or less.  Check each camp for specific details.


DANCE


SU17 Ballerina 1 Day Camps

Ages 3-5

9 -11am

Choose from the following days:

Two hours of fast paced fun to engage your little one for a fun-filled morning. Dancers will play games, hear a story, complete a craft and dance. This is a great way to introduce your little one to dance or continue their study while breaking up the monotony of a long summer day.


Summer Dance Intensive

Ages 10-18

Monday-Friday, 9-4pm

July 24 – July 28 (1 week). A true dance intensive for the dancer who really wants to push themselves, excel, and explore different dance styles. Dancers will work long and hard for three hours in the morning, take an hour lunch break, and three hours in the afternoon. Dancers must provide their own lunch. Classes will include Ballet, Modern, African, Musical Theatre, Jazz, Tap and  more! Students will work with a variety of instructors, including professional guest artist instructors who specialize in different dance styles. The final day will culminate in a performance for family and friends. Instructor: Kathleen Foster


FILM


SU17 Filmmaking Camp

Ages 11-17

Monday-Friday, 10:00am-4:00pm

THIS CAMP HAS MOVED TO JULY 31 – AUGUST 4TH (1 week). Make multiple short films in one week! Working hands on with cameras, lighting, props, and wardrobe, students will work together to write, shoot, and edit their own short films.  Projects will combine various styles and techniques, including live action, stop motion animation, documentary, and more, culminating in the students’ work premiering alongside the rest of the film department at the end of summer screening. Instructor:  Jonathan Moeller

Students should bring their own bag lunch every day.


MUSIC


SU17 Pre-Violin Camp

Ages 3-4

Monday & Wednesday, 9-9:30am

July 3 – August 9 (6 weeks). This class is perfect for the preschooler who expresses an interest in violin. Students will learn the proper way to hold their instrument and bow, how to produce notes, and how to be part of an ensemble as well as an audience. Parent attendance and participation encouraged.  Instructor: Prentice Johnson


SU17 Suzuki String Camp

Ages 6-10

Monday & Wednesday, 9:30-10:30am

July 3– August 9 (6 weeks). Students will focus on learning Suzuki Violin, Viola and Cello repertoire, while improving tone and technique in a fun social environment. Beginning music theory will be introduced using games and fun activities. Students will participate in a performance at the end of camp. Prerequisite: Six months of previous violin instruction. Instructor: Prentice Johnson


SU17 Jazz Ensemble Camp  

Ages 12-18

Monday-Saturday, 9am-1pm

Jun 12 – Jun 17 (1 week). This camp will highlight the importance of Jazz within American culture through the study of Jazz history, theory, and improvisation. Jazz combos formed will depend on the instruments available. Students of winds, brass, percussion, piano and vocal music are encouraged to register.  Instructor: Kenneth Leftridge

SU17 Broadway Bound Theater Camp

Ages 3 – 5

Tuesday, Thursday 1:00pm – 2:00pm

July 25, 27, Aug 1, 3 (2 weeks, 2 days a week). Learn the basics of musical theatre in this interactive class.  Students will learn how to build characters through song and dance.  This a great opportunity to introduce students to musical theatre and teach them how to “act the song.”  No prior experience necessary. The session will culminate with a presentation on the last camp day.  Instructor: Colleen O’Connor

SU17 Readers Theater Camp

Ages 7 – 13

Monday & Wednesday, 1:00pm – 3:00pm

July 10, 12, 19, 21 (2 weeks, 2 days a week). This is a camp designed to introduce students to creating characters and reading scripts.  Students will learn and perform different plays without having to worry about memorizing lines.  This is a great class for students with little to no theatre experience, along with students who are familiar with the stage looking to strengthen their character building skills.  Session will culminate with a performance on the last day of camp. Instructor:  Tim Stompanato


SU17 Art of Auditioning Camp

Ages 9 – 15

Monday & Wednesday, 1:00pm – 3:00pm

June 19, 21, 26, 28 (2 weeks, 2 days a week). Turn auditioning into an art form! This camp is designed to prepare students to audition for productions.  Learn the skills required for a complete and confident audition, and how to put your best foot forward.  Students will learn about monologues, presentation, cold reads, resumes, and the etiquette involved in the audition process. Instructor:  Tim Stompanato

VISUAL ARTS


SU17 Pre-Arts Academy

Ages 3-5

Max 16 per session. Students must be toilet trained. No diapers or pull-ups.

Our Pre Arts Academy offers a creative environment that is a perfect fit to help transition your child from home to a social environment.  Our professional instructor incorporates art, creative play, and music in their everyday activities. We also dabble in yoga, dancing and even take in-house field trips to our art gallery, and theatre to see a play. Students will learn to think creatively, develop their own ideas and try new things. Instructors: Amme Nowlin and Lauren Martinkus

Ages 8-12

June 26 – July 5 (2 weeks). Learn how to approach drawing the human body in this class.  We’ll begin with quick sketches and learn to look before expanding on our drawings to get the perfect pose! Instructor: Lauren Martinkus


SU17 Emoji Soft Sculptures

Ages 10+

Monday & Wednesday & Friday, 10:30am-12pm

June 26, 28, 30 (1 week). Design and sew your favorite emoji out of fabric! Students will learn simple stitches, pattern making, and attach appliques.  No sewing experience needed! Instructor: Lauren Martinkus
