BAC music classes are taught in increasing skill levels, beginning with basic classes for students completely new to the instrument. As they develop skills, students are moved into higher levels. No class the week of Nov 20-26. Designed for those with no previous experience, this class is an absolute must for introduction to or re-acquaintance with everyone’s favorite instrument. Learn correct hand positioning, basics of strumming, and how to play open chords. Students must bring a guitar to class.

Along the way you’ll learn to play advanced chords, read chord progressions and TAB, and explore tempo variations in performance. Prerequisite: Guitar 1 or instructor placement. Students must bring a guitar to class.

Sept 16 – Dec 16 (13 weeks). No class the week of Nov 20-26. Build on the foundation established in Guitar 1 by learning new chord progressions, note-reading, advanced strumming patterns, and music theory. Prerequisite: Guitar Basics or instructor placement. Students must bring a guitar to class. Instructor: Sharon Quigley


FA17 Ukulele Intro

Ages 4-7

Thursday, 5-5:30pm

Sept 14 – Dec 14 (13 weeks). No class the week of Nov 20-26. Designed for the young beginner, this class will introduce students to the proper way to hold their ukulele and how to produce notes. The small instrument size makes it very comfortable for small hands to learn on. Students will learn simple songs and how to be part of an ensemble. Students must bring a ukulele to class. Sept 14 – Dec 14 (13 weeks). No class the week of Nov 20-26. Beginning students will find the ukulele fun and easy to play! With only four strings, the ukulele is the perfect instrument for learning basic chords and simple strumming patterns. Students will learn valuable solo and ensemble techniques. Sept 15 – Dec 15 (13 weeks). No class the week of Nov 20-26. This class will introduce students to the most basic elements of the percussion world. Students will learn how to properly hold drumsticks, read and understand basic rhythmic notation, as well as how to have fun and be a rock star! Students must bring a drum or drum pad and a pair of drumsticks to class. Instructor: Steve Sinde

Sept 15 – Dec 15 (13 weeks). No class the week of Nov 20-26. Build on the foundational skills learned in Drum Basics. Students will study intermediate level rhythmic notation including drum rolls, rudiments, and percussion duets. Group drumming allows students to apply a knowledge of notation and rhythms in an improvisational setting that promotes spontaneity and creativity. Prerequisite: Drum Basics or instructor placement. Sept 16 – Dec 16 (13 weeks). No class the week of Nov 20-26. For students who have taken Intro to Violin A. Refine playing techniques and be introduced to basic music theory. An emphasis is placed on correct form and good sound production. Suzuki and other methods utilized. Instructor: Prentice Johnson

Sept 16 – Dec 16 (13 weeks). No class the week of Nov 20-26. Students will continue to progress by learning simple 2-octave scales, advanced fingerings, and complex bow strokes. Learn to play pieces in both simple and compound meters. Prerequisite: Violin 1 or instructor placement. Instructor: Prentice Johnson


FA17 Violin, Viola & Cello 3

Ages 10+

Saturday, 12-1pm

Sept 16 – Dec 16 (13 weeks). No class the week of Nov 20-26. Introduction to 2nd (cello) and 3rd (violin & viola) position and the mechanics of shifting. Techniques will be applied to both major scales and pieces of music. Emphasis will be placed on accurate note reading and successful sight reading in preparation for orchestral auditions. Admission by instructor placement only. Instructor: Prentice Johnson

Sept 16 – Dec 16 (13 weeks). No class the week of Nov 20-26. Students will be introduced to 2nd, 4th, and 5th positions as they refine the mechanics of shifting. Techniques will be applied to both major and minor scales and pieces of music. Emphasis will be placed on accurate note reading and successful sight reading in preparation for orchestral and chamber music repertoire. Admission by instructor placement only. FA17 Youth Harmonica

Sept 14 – Dec 14 (13 weeks). No class the week of Nov 20-26. This class is designed with the absolute beginner in mind. Students will learn basic techniques, the 12-bar blues pattern and receive an introduction to improvisation. Instructor: Clement Bashir
