Dancers begin classes based on age. As they move into leveled programming they will be placed based on age, maturity, and ability at the discretion of the instructor and coordinator. It is very common for dancers to spend multiple years in one level.

Sept 14 – Dec 14 (13 weeks). No class the week of Nov 20-26. Working off some baby weight? Want to get some exercise in without worrying about child care? This is the class for you! Caregiver and child spend quality time listening to child-friendly music while working on strength training, across the floor moves, and yoga. Ages 10+

Tuesday, 6-7pm

Prerequisite of 1+ year of jazz technique and instructor approval.

Sept 12 — Dec 12 (13 weeks). No class the week of Nov 20-26. Musical Theatre dance will focus on solidifying proper dance technique while exploring the various dance styles used in Broadway shows. Fast-paced class curriculum is based on Broadway style jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, technique and combinations. Emphasis will also be placed on learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and storytelling. Comfortable form-fitting clothing, black jazz shoes or jazz sneakers. Wednesday, 8-9pm

Sept 13 — Dec 13 (13 weeks). No class the week of Nov 20-26. This class will focus on bridging the gap between lyrical movement and hip hop choreography, combining the technique and precision associated with the classical form, the emotion of lyrical, and the freedom of hip hop. Each class will consist of a different piece of choreography to a different song. Students will explore emotion using movement and ideas that will both challenge and encourage them to break out of their comfort zone. Comfortable clothing, sneakers or jazz shoes. FA17 Muntu Mini

Founded in 1972, Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago is the premier dance company of authentic and contemporary interpretations of ancient African and African-American dance, music and folklore. BAC is proud to be partnering with this highly acclaimed dance company. Muntu instructors will teach traditional and contemporary African dance forms accompanied by a master drummer. The dance instruction will consist of sequential sessions allowing students to develop techniques and applications of sills in this artistic discipline. African dance teaches strength, discipline, and agility while improving overall athleticism. Students will be immersed in the culture and traditions of various African dances; learning the names, significance, and regions the dances originate from.
